Dear User,
Before we get started, I'd like to tell you a bit about myself and why I created PloudOS.
I'm Erik, 24 years old. I started working on PloudOS in December 2016, and in January 2017, I released the first version. PloudOS has been around for over six years now, serving millions of Minecraft servers to the public for free. Back when I began this project, I was still in school. Since April 2019, I've been working full-time at a company. It's been a great experience for me because I've been able to continue developing PloudOS and managing its infrastructure, all while learning new things and trying out new technologies.
In March 2020, something happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of people were at home. Our user base grew significantly, increasing by a whopping 40 times in just one year. It was a fantastic journey, giving more than a million of people the chance to have their own free Minecraft server to play with friends. This growth has continued to this day.
Because of this growth, we made more money, and we invested it all back into PloudOS. Last year for example, we bought a lot of new hardware to reduce our costs and make the platform more stable.
However, in the past few months, I've realized that I can't keep up with this project without it taking up too much of my personal time. I've been working way too much, and I had to make a difficult decision: either stop working on PloudOS or quit my job. Don‘t get me wrong, i could finance my life pretty fine from PloudOS, i just don‘t wanna do this.
At the end, I chose to focus on my jobs career.
Unfortunately, this means that PloudOS will shut down on September 30th at 11:30 pm (CEST). At that time, all data, including email addresses, hashed passwords and your servers will be permanently deleted. Any Minecraft servers still running will be turned off and deleted. If you want to keep your server data, please download a backup, if you don‘t know how that works we have a FAQ entry here.
Lastly, I want to say a big thank you to all of you for using our service and especially a THANKS to the PloudOS team. You've been there for us and helped provide some of the best Minecraft support around. To Applejuice, Gadget, icrayay, Jakashhi, Javirulo, jinzey, Moritz, Neuon, OnlyVentu, Rapha, SirMoD, Yaruma3341 - without you, this project wouldn't be what it is today. I appreciate all of your hard work. ❤️
